America's 10 Most Famous Ghosts - Halloween 2014
Celebrity is not a status exclusively bestowed upon the living. Some carry their popularity over into the afterlife, while others find it there for the first time.
Here are 10 of America’s most famous ghosts.
Number 10. Kate Morgan. More than a century ago she waited for her love to arrive at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. He never showed, and she never left. The night she was jilted Ms. Morgan took her own life, and to this day her spirit roams the hotel and its grounds.
Number 9. Abraham Lincoln. The corporeal version of the president was lost to the world in 1865. Since, however, many visitors to the White House have reported sightings of the great emancipator’s ghostly presence. Among them are Winston Churchill, First Lady Grace Coolidge, and Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands.
Number 8. Marilyn Monroe. The film legend was a regular guest at Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel and it’s not uncommon for current lodgers to see her hanging around there. One place she tends to turn up often is in a mirror that was once located in her preferred suite.
Number 7. Dolley Madison. The first lady was a force to be reckoned with in life, and that didn’t change after she died. Upon the orders of Mrs. Woodrow Wilson, gardeners began work tearing up Dolley’s once prized rose garden. As the story goes, the late Mrs. Madison showed up to make sure that didn’t happen. Her garden flourishes to this day.
Number 6. Resurrection Mary. If while driving near Justice, Illinois you catch a glimpse of a hitchhiker in a long white dress, don’t bother pulling over. It’s probably just Mary. She’s been trying to get a lift home since the 1930s, when she was struck and killed by a motorist on Archer Avenue. Those who have tried to help her out say she disappeared before they could get her to her destination.
Number 5. Andrew Jackson. History has indicated he was perhaps a grudge holder, and that could be why he’s been sticking around the White House. In life he was said to have retaliated for the loss of a previous election. In death he’s been reported to stomp around a lot.
Number 4. Bloody Mary. You may also know her as Mary Worth, the avenging ghost who will appear in the mirror when summoned. The tales surrounding how she ended up in her bloody, mutilated, and rage-filled state are many, but you could always try conjuring up her spirit and asking her for yourself.
Number 3. Michael Jackson. It’s often said he left this world too early, and reports of his ghost appearing here and there may indicate that he agrees. One such sighting was reported not long ago at a tribute event held in Bromley, England.
Number 2. Murdered Peddler. He was a simple salesman offering his wares door to door, but his passing resulted in the formation of a religion. After being murdered by a couple of homeowners, he was said to be in communication with two sisters. They established the practice of Spiritualism, which is still active today.
Number 1. Marie Laveau. The Voodoo priestess is buried in New Orleans’ Saint Louis Cemetery, but death hasn’t stopped her from roaming her French Quarter stomping grounds. Some say she appears as she was, turban and all, while others report that she manifests as a feline apparition with glowing red eyes.

On se kroz rešetke u zatvoru provlači bez problema
Spot godine? OK Go je zadivio fenomenalnom koreografijom
Američka grupa OK Go, ovoga puta u suradnji s japanskim redateljem Morihirom Haranom, opet se potrudila snimiti spot vrijedan pažnje. Svakako ga pogledajte...

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Dogs’ Tails
Tail wagging has long been associated with a pup’s mood, but the fascinating and often telling, things about the appendage don’t stop there.
Here are 10 things you didn’t know about dogs’ tails.
Number 10. They don’t wag them when they’re alone. Not even if they’re in the presence of a big, juicy unattended steak and their favorite chew toy. Researchers have found it to be a behavior exclusively exhibited when around others.
Number 9. Chasing one could be a sign of a deeper issue. Experts say dogs that regularly run around in circles in pursuit of their own tails could be suffering from OCD.
Number 8. Tails were originally used as a balancing aid. Historically, they proved particularly useful when dogs were walking along narrow paths. Such an assist isn’t needed much any more, but many canines have found other uses for them.
Number 7. Each wagging direction is governed by its own brain hemisphere. Whether it leans more to the left or the right depends largely on which mood, and thus which side of the brain, is dominant.
Number 6. Rightward wagging communicates happiness. When good moods prevail, the left side of the brain takes over and controls the right side of the body, including the dominant tail movement direction. A leftward leaning indicates that fear and anxiety are the probable emotions ruling the situation.
Number 5. Dogs can pick up on the wagging direction thing. Canines are able to recognize and interpret the bearing differences. Dogs exhibiting the happy right variety are deemed approachable, while the lefty waggers are not.
Number 4. Tail shaking is an acquired skill. Puppies begin to learn the ins and outs of it when they’re ready to start communicating. That’s usually around the month and a half mark, and they start by tail talking with mom and their siblings.
Number 3. They can come in handy when swimming. Some dogs are able to use their tails to navigate in the water. Retrievers tend to be especially good at it.
Number 2. The tail is an extension of the spine. It’s much more flexible, however, and has its own set of muscles, anchors and discs. The tail is also more exposed and active than the backbone, so there’s a greater chance of injury.
Number 1. The ‘hair of the dog’ comes from the tail. Back in the day, Pliny the Elder said that the way to get rid of rabies was to put ashes on the wound. Not just any ashes, though. The remedy dictated that they be made from the tail hair of the dog that bit you.

10 Famous People Who Were Once Homeless
Given the charmed lives many celebrities lead, it’s hard to imagine that they’ve ever had to go without. For many famous people, that is very far from the truth.
Here are 10 of them who were once homeless.
Number 10. Shania Twain. In her memoir, the multiple Grammy winner recounted the day she and her family took up residence in a shelter. A couple years later, Twain found herself alone and squatting in an abandoned house in Toronto.
Number 9. Ed Sheeran. Before finding fame as the lead singer of Thinking Out Loud, this musician lived on the streets for over 2 years. One of his frequent places to catch some shuteye was in a heating duct just outside Buckingham Palace.
Number 8. Hillary Swank. This actress had a dream, and her mother was fully committed to helping her achieve it. The problem is that once the two arrived in Los Angeles they had no money for a place to stay. While they saved up, the two lived out of their car.
Number 7. Tyler Perry. Believing in himself and his breakout play ‘I Know I’ve Been Changed’ cost the movie mogul his entire savings. In the six years it took the production to become the hit he knew it would be, Tyler spent a lot of time living in either his car or low-rent motels.
Number 6. Phil McGraw otherwise known as Dr. Phil. He’s built a 280 million dollar empire on making lives better, but when he was 12 he didn’t have a bed to call his own. While his father, also a psychologist, was interning it, was a struggle to come up with just 5 dollars for a room at the Y.
Number 5. Drew Carey. Following a suicide attempt, Carey made the decision to leave Ohio and head to Los Angeles. He got stuck in Las Vegas for a while, and had no place to stay. He sold his plasma to make enough money for food, which was typically boxed macaroni and cheese.
Number 4. Rose McGowan. Much of her childhood was rocky and in her early teens she ran away from home. During the year she spent as one of America’s homeless she was lucky to make a friend and the two traveled the Pacific Northwest together.
Number 3. Steve Harvey. The comedian and game show host found himself on the streets after a gig fell through. He told himself the rough spell was temporary, but it ended up lasting for 3 years.
Number 2. Jewel. Her time without a home was brief, but nearly fatal. The singer has kidney issues and while without insurance couldn’t get medical attention. She said one day she found herself in the emergency room parking lot, sure she was dying.
Number 1. Daniel Craig. Before he was James Bond, he was a guy that slept on park benches. While trying to break into show business he was living in London and most of the time couldn’t afford a place to stay.

Dnevno pojede 20 000 kalorija - Evo i zašto!

Early Apple computer sells for $905,000 at auction
The Henry Ford bought the 1976 Apple 1 computer at Bonhams’s History of Science auction for $905,000 ($750,000 before fees)—well above the estimated value of $300,000 to $500,000 and the previous high price paid of more than $671,000. The motherboard will eventually go on permanent display at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
“Similar to what Henry Ford did with the Model T, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs put technology directly in the hands of the people with the creation of the Apple-1, completely altering the way we work and live,” Patricia Mooradian, the Henry Ford’s president, said in the institution’s press release. The Apple 1 was the first pre-assembled computer to come to market.
The Henry Ford’s acquisition is believed to be from the initial run of 50 Apple computers ever produced—soldered together in the Jobs family’s garage—and one of 15 in working condition.
“The likelihood that a unit as complete as this will come up for auction is slender,” says Kristen Gallerneaux, one of the museum’s curators, in a statement. “The Henry Ford would have been remiss in holding off much longer in acquiring one for our collection.”

American Cars in Cuba
With an estimated 60,000 vintage cars still in Cuba, these old classics are a tribute to the nostalgia of the old days. Believe it or not, no new parts have been shipped to Cuba to service these auto's since the ealry 60's, and they currently run on the sole ingenuity of the Cuban people. Can you guess how they do this? Surprisingly, they either manufacture their own replacement parts, use common household items, or repurpose parts from older Soviet vehicles to keep these running.
The only American cars that can be purchased for private use in Cuba (with "particular" plates) are those that were previously registered for private use and acquired before the revolution. However, if the owner doesn’t have the proper paper work called a “traspaso”, the vehicle cannot be legally sold.[5] American cars that were present, at the time of the embargo, have been preserved through loving care and ingenuity. And since there were many of these, due to the presence of a past strong Cuban middle-class,[6] classic cars have been the standard, rather than an exception in Cuba. Even President Fulgencio Batista’s son owned a 1956 Corvette.[7] Due to the constant good care, many remain in good working order only because Cuban people are able to adapt to a diminishing source of parts to keep the vehicles running. The owners of these “yank tanks” are sitting on a potential “gold mine” that, if the embargo were to be lifted, the Cuban people could make quick cash by selling their cars to people who collect and restore them.[8]
On the other hand, many of these vehicles, especially those in taxi service, have been converted to accept replacement engines, usually Soviet diesel engines. Fortunately, this is a modification that gives a car a new lease on life. The practical limits of engine longevity, scarcity of replacement parts, and the high cost of fuel in post Cold War (roughly 75 U.S. cents a liter in the summer of 2002)[1] Cuba have made diesel power (roughly 15 to 20 U.S. cents)[1] a popular choice for engine replacement, if a suitable gasoline engine couldn’t be acquired.
